With Bing Places for Business you add your business to Bing search and Bing Maps for free. Since October 2025 Bing Places has a new address and a new interface, so most guides online are outdated.
This guide shows you the three routes to a listing, from importing your Google profile to creating a new one, how PIN verification works and how long you have to wait. You also learn why Bing handles moving and duplicates differently from Google, and why Bing rejects changes when old details remain online.
- Bing Places for Business is free and has run at bing.com/forbusiness since October 2025.
- The fastest route is importing your Google Business Profile, then Bing verifies automatically.
- Otherwise a PIN arrives by phone, text, email or post.
- Every change takes up to two weeks, and Bing only applies basic details if they match other sources online.
Bing Places 2026: new address, new interface
Many guides still send you to bingplaces.com. Since October 2025 Bing Places for Business runs at bing.com/forbusiness, with a new interface. Microsoft moved existing accounts automatically. The help pages are also available in German.
- Cost: none, Bing Places is free.
- Sign-in: with a Microsoft account, Google account, Facebook or a work account. All listings are tied to the email address you sign in with.
- Countries: Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein are supported.
- Who can join: businesses with a location customers visit, and service providers with a service area who hide their address.
Do not confuse Bing Places with Bing Webmaster Tools. Bing Places is your listing in search and on the map, Webmaster Tools are for your website.
Why a Bing listing is worth it
Bing is more than just another search engine. According to OpenAI, ChatGPT search uses Bing among others as a search provider. OpenAI does not say whether Bing Places data feeds in directly. It is therefore quite possible that what Bing knows about you ends up in answers from AI assistants. Microsoft also names tighter integration of Bing Places with Copilot as a goal.
There is another point many underestimate: according to its help pages, Bing compares your details with external sources such as websites, review sites, other map services and social media. Bing only applies name, address, phone, website, hours and category if they match trusted data online. If old details remain elsewhere, Bing can discard or overwrite your change. Conversely, if you do not update the listing for more than six months, other sources can take precedence according to Microsoft. You can see some of the sources Bing uses at the bottom of the listing under Data from.
Guide: add your business to Bing
There are three routes, plus one for agencies and chains. Pick the one that fits:
If you have a verified Google Business Profile, this is the fastest route.
- Sign in at bing.com/forbusiness, also possible with your Google account.
- Choose Import from your Google Business Profile and set whether to sync weekly, every two weeks or monthly.
- Sign in to Google and import the detected listings.
If your profile is verified on Google, Bing verifies the listing automatically according to its help pages. Then the normal publishing cycle follows.
As long as the listing is linked to Google, you cannot edit it directly in Bing. Make changes on Google and they arrive with the next sync. According to Microsoft, categories are not always transferred exactly, and the import can create duplicates if the listing already exists on Bing. You cannot pick individual listings for the import, and turning off sync does not remove the link.
Your business often already exists on Bing because Bing merges data from other sources. Then claim that listing.
- Sign in and search for your business with the right country, name and location.
- Pick the result with your address. If there are several for you, report the duplicates.
- Request the listing and start verification.
If someone else has already claimed the listing, such as a former agency, request access from the account owner.
If you find no listing, choose Create new business. Required are business name, address, phone number, website, opening hours, category and status. If you have no website, leave that field empty. A PO box is not allowed as an address. You can add up to 100 photos, social media links and, for restaurants, a menu link.
If customers do not come to you, for example in the trades, still enter your full address and hide it. Instead, set up to 20 places or postcodes as your service area.
Agencies register in Bing Places as an agency. They can then add or update up to 10000 businesses at once via bulk upload and see the status of all listings in one dashboard. The verification PIN still goes to the business, by email or postcard.
Chains with several locations group their listings and start verification for all of them at once. The support team reviews this, according to Microsoft usually within 5 to 7 business days.
Verification and waiting time
Changes only go live once the listing is verified. Bing sends you a six-digit PIN for this, depending on the listing by phone, text, email or postcard. Not every method is available to everyone. The call, for example, is only offered if your business number is already in the existing listing.

According to Bing the postcard takes up to 12 business days. If it does not arrive, ask at your post office and then contact support. If the PIN does not work, an agency may have started verification with a different account. You must enter the PIN in the same account.
Edit your listing: how and how long
In the dashboard pick your listing, click Edit and save. Then the publishing cycle runs: according to Microsoft usually 7 to 12 days, outside North America up to two weeks. If the listing is still not live after 12 calendar days, contact support. Before verification, editing is limited.
What you can maintain:
- Basic details: name, address, phone, website, opening hours, category and status.
- Categories: one primary and up to nine more.
- Opening hours: also several time slots per day or around the clock.
- Photos: up to 100, at least 480 x 360 pixels, at most 10 MB per file. Tag them with a category such as exterior, interior or logo. Two exterior shots help customers recognise you when driving past.
- Announcements: offers and news, not for permanent details.
- Services offered, for restaurants menu and price level, for hotels the star rating.
Bing may discard keywords in the business name, and violating the guidelines can lead to a suspension. The name must match what is on your door.
Moving, duplicates and closed businesses
This is where Bing differs clearly from Google:
- Moving or new name: do not change the old listing. Microsoft recommends creating a new listing and marking the old one as closed. The old one is still linked to data sources for the previous address, so changing it leads to conflicting details. Bing has no “moved” status.
- Closed: mark the listing as closed in your account. It then drops in the results and is removed after about six months.
- Duplicate: you cannot edit a listing Bing has marked as a duplicate. Claim the published listing instead. Duplicates often come from the Google import or from several accounts.
- Delete: remove a listing via the delete function in your account. To delete the whole account, write to placesfeedback@microsoft.com from the address you sign in with. If someone else takes over, support can transfer the account first.
How to get rid of old listings on Google is covered in Delete your Google Business Profile.
| Bing Places | Google Business Profile | |
|---|---|---|
| Moving | Create a new listing, mark the old one as closed | Change the address in the existing profile |
| Verification | PIN by phone, text, email or post, automatic after importing a profile verified on Google | Depending on the profile by video, live video call, call, text, email or postcard |
| Until changes go live | Up to 2 weeks per publishing cycle | Usually minutes, sometimes up to 30 days |
| Categories | 1 primary and up to 9 more | 1 primary and up to 9 more |
| Closed listing | Removed from Bing after about six months | According to Google fades out over time, visible as closed in targeted searches |
Get found better on Bing
According to its help pages, Bing ranks local results by relevance, distance and popularity. Reviews and mentions on the web, for example on Yelp or Tripadvisor, count towards popularity. What you can do:
- Complete the listing fully, with category, hours, photos and services.
- Keep your own website clean for search engines, which according to Bing feeds into local ranking.
- Be listed on the important portals of your industry with the same details.
How to add your business to Apple Maps is shown in Add your business to Apple Maps.
The same details everywhere
Because Bing compares your details with the rest of the web, a clean listing is only half the work. If portals or directories still show old hours or an old number, Bing may reject your correction. faktado.ai finds these places automatically, compares them with your website and also checks what ChatGPT and Google say about you. The free check shows you within about 15 minutes where you stand.
